Week 13 - Graphic composition and visual harmony

1) Main homework
    a. Please let someone take a picture for yourself. Explain to the photo-taker what kind of result you want to get, with the rules and principles of graphic composition in mind. Write a 200-250 words essay to describe/critic the picture, using languages/vacabulary from graphic composition and rules of visual harmony (please underline the names of the rules and principles). Print out this essay, together with your picture in color, both on 8.5x11 paper. Due on Monday (Nov 19th, 2012).
    b. Please draw the picture as photo real with color (press hard and color solidly with your colorpencils) and all the details. Do this on 8.5x11 paper (the paper from 14x17 sketchbook preferrable, cut into 8.5x11"). Due on Monday (Nov 26th, 2012).

2) Copy sketches
Please copy both of the following skethes. Both due on Wednesday (Nov 28th, 2012).

3) Graphic journal
    a. Please do one of the two graphic journals about "bird(s) and tree". I recommend you to go out and observe this scene in real life, take a picture and draw from your picture. This is due on Monday (Nov 19th, 2012).
    b. Thanksgiving week: please do one of the two grphic journals about a scene in the coffee shop. Do this when you actually sit in a coffee shop and observe the interior design (decoration and furnature) and people's social interaction. This is due on Monday (Nov. 26th, 2012).

Week 12 - Drawing on black paper and outdoor sketches

1) Main homework: please finish the drawings on the black paper as we talked in class on Monday.

2) Copy sketch:
Please select one of the following sketches to copy. From the first two architecture sketches, please pay attention to the size of the buildings in each image, and when you draw the buildings, you should avoid drawings too large, because you need to have space for landscape and the environment. Also, please take a close look at how to draw water (wave and reflection) and trees.
The third drawing is an interior sketch. If you choose to copy this one, please draw everthing on the same page, which means you can draw each interior setup small.
Congratulations on your improvements in free-hand drawing!! Enjoy!

3) Please do one of the graphic journals about your favorite model of a transportation tool (vehicle, motorcycle, or bicycle, etc.), and it doesn't have to be your belonging. I encourage you to use color on this one. As usual, you can draw anything you'd like in the other journal.
